It was a trail...how bad could it be? So off I went, not clothed appropriately for hiking. Not very far into my adventure, I saw a sign that bears had been seen along the trail, and that if we saw any bears, we should notify the ranger. (Never mind I had NO cell phone reception on the mountain!) I stopped and thought about it a minute, and went on hiking...rather blithely, until about 1/2 mile into the hike, when I heard footsteps (paws?) behind me and no one else around. I looked up and said, "Jesus, I need you right now!" I don't think I've EVER been so happy to see a dog in my entire life! The dog was with 3 other hiker types who WERE dressed appropriately for hiking! One of them actually stayed behind to help me over a big boulder in the trail. I made it to the overlook, more determined than ever when I saw a white-haired lady walking toward me on this very complex trail with a cane; she had already been to the overlook with two other ladies. (That's how I want to age!) It would be crazy not to be out enjoying it. And you can really take in a lot from such great heights (though I'm totally with you about the preschooler thing, which is why my face looks distraught in the pictures from our Maryland hike--and the preschooler WAS mine, though I wouldn't let her out of my sight!)<BR/><BR/>Glad you guys can spend so much time together.
