Counting My Blessings- March 29, 2009

This was a wonderful weekend for one big fat reason- I got to spend a lot of time with my family!

On Saturday my daughter asked if I would take her shopping. She has lost so much weight since she stopped eating junk food on January 1 that her clothes don't fit right. Plus, she still has all of her gift cards from Christmas waiting to be spent.

We had such a fun impromptu day at the mall. She was able to find some fantastic deals including three pairs of $40.00 jeans for $6.00 a piece! A woman after her frugal mother's own heart!

I got some good deals too. I was scrounging around in the clearance section of the china department of a department store and found boxes containing four chargers for $3.60, normally $20. I also got a fancy schmancy curtain rod for my living room for way below normal cost.

Saturday night we had one of our favorite family meals together: Buffalo chicken salad and spiced almonds with ranch or blue cheese dressing. We got the recipes from Ellie Krieger of the Food Network a few years back and quickly decided that this is a favorite meal.

This morning we attended the greatest church on earth which we attend every Sunday. After church my husband took me on a date. We went to Longhorn Steakhouse for lunch, which was delicious as it always is at Longhorn. Then we went to the mall again to buy my husband some new dress shirts. Finally, we stopped by Lowe's and Home Depot to scout out supplies for my square foot gardens.

When we got home the kids were both napping so my husband read on the deck and the cat and I curled up on a lounge chair on the deck for a little "cat nap".

After I finish this post I'm going to finish planning my square foot gardens so I can plant very soon. Ideally, I'd like to supplement our menu with lots of fresh veggies this summer. Each year my gardens grow bigger. I'm just so thankful that I've finally found something I can make grow! If you haven't tried square foot gardens before check them out here.

Hope everyone else had a super weekend too!

One thing I dearly miss, is shopping with my mama. That woman could sniff out a bargain a mile away! :)

My particular weekend involved a snake moving into my van.

I'll miss that van.

The weather does--finally--seem to be making that turn toward spring. The girls are on "break" next week, and we have seeds to plant in our "temporary" greenhouse. We let our ladybugs out into the world yesterday after watching them grow from young larvae. It's such a refreshing time in so many ways.

Can I look forward to the girls napping again in a few years?--LOL! Someone always manages to nap at your house on Sunday; that's cool!

Sounds like you all had a wonderful weekend!

I'd love to see your garden so be sure to take pics! I tried square foot gardening a few years ago but just didn't like it and I really had bad results with the Mel's mix!
