I'm so happy. I actually completed a window mistreatment all by myself. My friend, Nester, will be so proud. I'm working on my bedroom and when it's completed I'll show pictures.
First, let me show you the window treatments that I had in place and explain why I wanted a change.

These were pale and blended in with the walls. The bedspread and everything was pale and I was ready to add some deeper, richer, more soothing colors in my master bedroom. Also, I have a huge bedroom and four big windows. The valences just weren't cutting it.

It's doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful. That's what Nester says and it's a good thing because these are far from perfect. But I like them! I really like them and the tranquil, calm effect they add to the room.
I truly did this mistreatment Nester style minus the glue gun. First, I purchased cheap $12 a pair panels from Garden Ridge. Then I bought a $2.99 dust ruffle at Goodwill that reminded me of toile, which I love. I cut it up to form the valences on my windows and used safety pins (behind the curtains) to hold them in place. Voila' A genuine window mistreatment completed start to finish by someone who is domestically challenged.
These pictures are not doing this justice at all, but I promise that it looks really pretty in the room. My friend, Melissa, came to see and she absolutely loved it and agreed that it softened and calmed the room so much.
For me, it was a growth moment when I did something I didn't think I could do.

Hi Bonita!
Thanks for visiting my blog...
I have to say I was a bit confused about your windows, "windows mistreatment" isn't a term we use here in Australia and I thought you had broken a window or something! But they look lovely, you've done well, and no one would have known you "cheated" if you hadn't told us! Well done!
Yes, I have no doubt that you have encouraged yourself enough to step out and try another project! You go, girl!!
We have dark blue panels in our bedroom also (on white walls) and I always think about adding a valence to match the comforter. But, my bedroom will be the very last room for remodeling consideration, so don't look for posted pictures for at least a decade. HA!
I rather like "Mistreatments for the Domestically Challenged" over something like "Valences for Dummies." You're a genius!! Now be brave and hit that office....
Wow! What a difference. I bet it changed the look of the whole room. I am domestically and decorating challenged. I'm so impressed that not only did you do this but you did it thriftily and on your own. Good Job!!
It's just lovely! I've not tried to tackle curtains in my life yet. But now I know that it is possible for a person who doesn't really sew to create curtains. :)

I am so impressed, and a wee bit jealous. You see I had a partner in domestic challenges in you, and now you are joining the "other side" with those crafty people.
It looks great, congratulations. Perhaps there is hope for me too!
Yippie B!!
They make the room look bigger, and taller and proud! I adore that blue floral fabric! you did a great job!
love and miss you and still cannot wait to have you over when i'm 95.
Hi, Bonita, I think you did a great job. And aren't you glad you didn't wait for it all to be perfect until you tried it?! Looks wonderful, friend.
xo,
Rhoda
