Celebrate April 17, 2008

In case you're wondering what's the deal with this lady and all of her weirdo holidays. Well, I enjoy learning about these days, but also I hope to add a little fun to other lives. I do not in any way mean this to be one more thing to add to your already busy days, but just a way to add a little fun if you're so inclined. These are great little tools for parents, particularly homeschooling parents, but really any parents who want to add a little extra spark to your family time. Kids tend to like goofy things like this and I have to admit that since I started posting these I've been more intentional about a lot of things, including having fun. So if you like them use them, if not just skip it.

Even though it isn't yet April 17 as I type this, I'm going to pretend it is so just play along.

Today is Ford Mustang Day. If you happen to own a stang give it a little tender loving care today. Wash it. Wax it. Take it for a long drive- if you can afford the gas. This would be a great day to introduce the kiddos to a fellow named Henry Ford.

Today is High Five Day. Instead of handshakes or hugs, give high fives today. You know what I think is so fun about high fives? Even the smallest of kids can get the hang of it and they think it is so cool.

Today is Blah, Blah, Blah Day. My understanding of this holiday is that you're supposed to do the things others have been nagging you to do. That's all good and well and if someone has been counting on you to do something then by all means do it. But I think this is also a great day to do whatever has been nagging at you on the inside. Do you need to write a note to someone who needs encouragement? Does something need to be organized in your home or office? Do you need to make a concerted effort to get back on that diet and exercise regimen? Whatever keeps nagging at you- just do it. I guess that means I'm off to clean the master bathroom and go for a long, break-a-sweat walk.

Today is National Cheeseball Day. In honor of this day I'll share one of my favorite cheeseball recipes from my friend, Joy.

Joy's Ham and Cheese Log
1- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 TBSP mayonnaise
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 TBSP chopped olives
1 TBSP minced parsley
1 tsp chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped beef or ham

Add mayo and Worcestershire sauce to cream cheese. Mix well. Add olives, parsley, and onion. Chill until firm. Roll in ham. Garnish with parsley. Serve with crackers.

I love that you love to make other people love life. Did you catch that? I do appreciate it. I wonder who these people are that decide what days are what?!?! I'm claiming tomorrow as my day to kick back and have some special one on one with God, read my new library book, and have a little nap on my couch day. Care to join??!?!

Thanks for that recipe, that sounds YUMMY! I will definitely be trying that one!

I am really enjoying all these holidays! I could just sit in my pj's and eat cheeseball all day long! I have a cheeseball recipe with a secret ingredient that everyone loves but no one can ever guess.

Confetti Cheeseball

1. 8oz cream cheese
2. several green onions, finely chopped
3. 1 pkg Buddig dried corned beef, finely chopped
4. 1 1/2 C shredded cheddar
5. LOTS OF TACO SAUCE!!

Mix together and roll in nuts, or my favorite, crushed Cheez-it crackers.

Happy Cheeseball Day!!
